Ramps affected by the shutdown!

Just received this email from MD DNR....
Due to the Federal Government shutdown all of the C&O Canal is closed, including the boat ramps to the Potomac River.  The National Park Service (NPS) has constructed gates at each access point, all are closed and locked. Access is only available at non-NPS ramps (Seneca, Whites Ferry, Brunswick Campground - maybe, Shepherdstown, and Williamsport).

Ok, some of this is getting ridiculous.  Shutting down a granite wall and marble structure? Open grass areas and trails? Really??? I'm shocked they didn't try and shutdown the GW parkway.

Re: Ramps affected by the shutdown!

It cost more to shut down and guard these places than to just leave them open.  The absurdity of trying to make sure we feel the pain of the shutdown by doing this is unbelievable.

Assuming the fallout is target specific and orchestrated is interesting. An inept government (basic tenet) that is simultaneously conspiratorial...

I don't think Conspiratorial and Inept are necessarily mutually exclusive!! big_smile

Re: Ramps affected by the shutdown!

A friend of mine reported that Gravelly was closed (barricaded) but people parked along the GW Pkwy and used the grounds anyway. No reason to barricade...costs more to guard as Greg said. Politics!!!
