John Odenkirk invited me and Benjamin to join them on their annual trip with Jim Hemby. Ernie and I have known John probably 25 years.....since he did an electrofishing survey for the lakes in Ashburn Village that long ago. I ended up being the first mate for the trip since there were 7 fishermen on the boat. Got Benjamin up at 3 am to meet Hemby at the marina at 3:30. WE caught around 300 blueback herring by 4:30. We fished a little waiting on the crew to show up at 6:30. The fish were in small schools of less than 25 fish, so we did a lot of hopping around picking off 3-4 here and there. By 12:30 it was hot, and we called it quits. Caught probably 30 or so undersized fish and 23 keepers. Here is Benjamin and Michael (Mike Isel's son) with the offload at the dock.
Here is the whole crew with their bounty.
Everyone had a great time, especially Benjamin......he caught 4 stripers

History of friendship like that is pretty cool curly. Looks like a blast and glad the boys got their fish. I hope they experience this type of fishing success throughout the years!

This is sooooo cool! Way to go!
Let me further the story.
I met John Odenkirk through my friend Carl Johnson (RIP). It seems that Carl was transferring white perch (his favorite fish) to some lakes and ponds in Fairfax. Somehow, John found out and met Carl. They became instant friends.
When Carl bought some property in Fluvania County, John helped him design the pond and advised him on what to stock it with. At that time, John was a young biologist with the state.
Carl used to work for me and he introduced me to white perch fishing. I talk about him every time I perch fish.
