Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

Looks like we'll need a new section on the forum for droning! I'm looking forward to the videos/photos. I'll wait until Ernie buys a bunch of drones and such and then buy it from him when he has to sell to make room for more stuff big_smile

Oh great....not only do I need to keep it flying and out of the water, now I have to dodge flying perch lures.  I bet you would take way too much pleasure in that.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

Don't fly it near the White House!........guy did that this week with a quadcopter and is deep doo doo.

Guy was drunk when he flew it into restricted air space.  He was an NGA employee with a clearance and should have known better.  Deep doo doo’s a good way to describe it.

They are likely to be restricted going forward with the White House incident.

They are restricted now, but mostly for commercial use.  Search “Pirker Drone case” for more info.  The appeal defines the current FAA authority over drones.  Privacy issues are a different matter.

Section 336 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 discusses the special rules for model aircraft established by Congress.

But what do I know, all I do is fish.

BTW, nice pix!

I can now see the Ashburn Villahge HOA banning these under the guise of "peeping drone".

Actually ... Loudon County does have "peeping Tom" regulations that prohibit someone from viewing another person's property with optical enhanced devises (not sure of the exact wording, but close).

Strap a GoPro onto a drone & now you have a first person view optical enhanced devise.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

But, with that logic we would all be guilty by having a camera on our iPhone and taking a picture of someone/something with someone's "property" in the background.  It would seem to me it has to depend on the intent and content of a picture/video.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

A drone hovering outside someone's window takes the iPhone argument out the window. Ha...I made a funny!

People today are super sensitive.......and often looking for a battle.

Good things happen when you see a gannet!

Be a while before Beaver Dam has a bird show like that one. Were you the lucky one who snapped that pic? I'm jealous.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

This is what the news reported crashed on the lawn of the WH - they are down to about $500 now.  Maybe less if you look around.

This video is the dude the FAA fined, and shows some of the things a drone can do.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

That is a bigger, GPS quadcopter.  Pretty much top of the line in this style.  A Go Pro can be mounted underneath and the video streamed real time back to the remote control.  The Syma X5C is half the size, 1/4 the weight, and 1/10th the price including the camera.  But the Syma does not transmit real time video and is not GPS guided.  Two bid drawbacks.

Ernie, I agree all this drone stuff should be moved to its own topic.  I am sure a lot of people keep thinking we are going to say something of value about Beaverdam and keep reading this stuff instead.

Re: The new future of Beaverdam Reservoir

Interesting development, Dan Turlik just reported that Fred Jennings (GM) resigned from Loudoun water on Friday. He was the boss. I wonder what's up with that?

I drove by there today and reminded myself that they were supposed to start the stakeholders meetings in January. They are late. I will send message to Sup. Williams.
