This will be for the "storm total" as will be reported by NWS-Sterling for Dulles Airport. Predictions must be posted by 11 pm Friday, even though some type of precipitation may start as early as 6 pm Friday. Storm is expected to end Saturday afternoon................Hope I have not Jinxed this
.
So......I will go with 5.2" for now with the option to modify before the deadline tomorrow night.

So....according to some, it is going to snow Friday, accumulate a little and then go back t snow until about 11pm on Saturday.
If it happens this way. are we adding up the 2 different day's totals or getting a total at the end of the 23-24 split event?

I was wondering the same thing. Great minds.

Just like the thread title says...........It will start snowing in about an hour or so (Jan 23) and will end mid-day or sometime on Saturday (Jan 24). The National Weather Service (NWS) will report the "Storm Total Snowfall" and the "24 Hour Snowfall" for Dulles Airport.
We will predict the "Storm Total Snowfall". ![]()

Sounds too bureaucratic to me...I just want to know if the total will be at what is on the ground at a certain hour or what has fallen and melted as they recorded in time periods..
1.3"

Storm total= 0 (zero)

I agree with Jefff.....silly storm. Heck, we got more a couple of days ago!

I guess Ernie must decide as Administrator:
Does a prediction of "Zero" inches count towards any measured amount as a tie-breaker, or does "Zero" mean no snow at all...........period.
Offline
Zero is the start of the number scale but maybe we should just say that anything less than an inch isn't even worth predicting....
Maybe Monday's storm will produce something.

Not exactly a King Solomon decree
......or maybe it is
.......so it appears that there may not be a winner this time with 0.3" measured so far at IAD. They are still predicting some more snow this morning, so I'll wait until after lunchtime to see what the official final total will be. I'll start a Sun/Mon prediction thread tomorrow.

I was surprised to see Goose Creek running pretty hard and chocolaty when I crossed it at Rt. 7 a bit ago.

NWS reported over an inch of rain last night.............in addition to the 0.3" of snow.
No snow total winner this time since Ernie says that we must have at least an inch. We will have better luck with the next storm coming up.............hopefully.

I was pretty surprised too. I drove to MD and back and every stream/creek/water I passed over was chocolate. I thought about hitting some trout waters while in MD, good thing I didn't.

I was up you around in York Pennsylvania Friday night.
let me tell you that storm was serious business there. large trucks were getting stuck all over the place problems on I 83
rear wheel drive vehicles were helpless.
I was driving my Ford Ranger rear wheel drive.
I reduced air pressure to about 24 pounds- I was barely able to make it out of there
