....at the office.
I don't go in much anymore but when I do, it's for good reason. Today, I had 2 colleagues coming in from CT and MA to meet for the afternoon. We had a good meeting going when we were rudely interrupted by the building speaker system. They told us all to evacuate and not to use the elevators. Hmmm....no fire alarm?
As I got to the lobby, there were a few Homeland Security cops looking very serious and with their hands on their weapons. It seems that we were in a "bomb threat" situation. Common sense took over and we walked several blocks to get away from the direct hit, should there be one. They had the whole area cordoned off and we saw at least 30 police cars as well as a dozen Fire and Ambulance vehicles. And....a truck from the Coroner's office! Yikes!
As these things go, many times they are false alarms so we went to an establishment to wait it out. An hour or so went by and the news was not good. We could not go back to get our cars until they searched the whole garage. They found a car with various weapons and grenades and they needed to go through everything.!
One of my colleagues jumped in a taxi and went to the airport to go home. The others stayed and drank a few beers.
Since I had invited my sister to meet at Ford's Fish Shack at 6:30p for her birthday, it looked like I was going to miss it. Debbie and my youngest son would accompany her. But my instincts took over again (as well as my appetite for Angry Mussels) and I started my trek home sans my car.
Metro from DC to West Falls Church- $5.20
Bus to Dulles- $10
Taxi from airport to restaurant (near my house)- $23
I got to Ford's at 7 and was able to join in on the festivities.
Tomorrow, I will pick my car up in McLean as my colleague was able to retrieve it (made a good plan to give him my keys just in case) from the garage around 8:00p.
Just another day in DC......I will have more details tomorrow.

Those are the days you wish you stayed at home! Next time, give me a call and I'll pick you up! I split time in McLean and the 395 corridor!

Was this the chick who called in the bomb threat because she was late for court?

Arrest was made last night. The tourist couple got a surprise when they returned to retrieve their car. The garage attendant was attentive as she made her rounds and discovered the arsenal.

I see nothing in the news about this. Makes you wonder how many of these happen and we never know about it.

I looked all over and saw nothing either, as you said.
Homeland Security presence was big and many streets closed off. But, if you were 2-3 blocks away, you would have no idea what was going on.

I think that no media coverage might be a good thing. Look how many copycats see news coverage and then go out and do the same thing. School incidents come to mind. I'm just glad to know the good guys are out there doing their jobs.

Bob- you are so right. They pounced quickly, had the dogs sniffing for explosives in the garage and had the situation under control very quickly.
