No PFD.  Required to be worn November 15-May 15.

yep!

This guy works at Fletcher's....I sent a very nice email to them reminding them to set an example.

The PFD rule is no joke, that water is cold and fast.

That's good work! My friend Bev was involved in a rescue any years ago. He was the guy on the hoist bringing the victim up.

I just saw that photo....maybe he has a PFD underneath? Or maybe he is a knucklehead.....

Re: 1st striper caught at Fletchers on 3-29-13

no real reason NOT to wear a PFD all the time. I hardly notice I have mine on for the most part unless it is excessively hot out. They are not the rigid bulky things of 10-30 years ago. I draw the correlation between wearing a PFD and a bike helmet. Growing up I would have never worn one (would have been laughed at if I did)  and didn't have to by law. Now in my old age, I don't get on the bike without one on and feel naked without it.

Too many reckless jet ski's and power boaters out there. Heck even a big fish.  Ernie watched that guy get turtled by huge striper last week. How many of Joe's videos have we seen him fall in the drink?

Makes total sense. I never go out on my bike without  a helmet.

On a yak, I always have my PFD on....hot weather included.

On my boat, I generally wear it when moving and when the water is cold.

I saw 8-10 boats out at Fletchers on the way home from work today.  Any news on people catching?  It is going to be a beautiful week coming up.  Should warm the water up a bit.

Yes....shad (both types) are being caught.  Some stripers have been caught as well. Game is on!

Check the reports at Fletcher's, should be another one out soon.

Fletcher's is where I intend to be all weekend.  This will probably be my only chance to catch the shad run.

Re: 1st striper caught at Fletchers on 3-29-13

On Saturday, the DC Harbor Police came up river and told many rowers and canoeists to put their life jackets on. He could have written 50 tickets if he wanted to....

On a separate note, the 1st fly caught striper happened over the weekend.

Heck yes they should know better.....I wrote an email back to the National Capital Chapter Trout Unlimited guys who posted the picture. Also sent it to Mike Bailey.
