I think this just about puts and end to the fishing season (wading and yaking).

The rivers can rebound pretty well usually but the snow event out west along with our rain event might just be too much.

I am supposed to fish the Potomac (Pohick area) on the 8th and then do a float on the UP on the 10th. Maybe I should just get a cheap flight to South Florida and fish down there for those days....

I was planning on working form home today....but I am now in hurricane mode.

Back in '72, I stayed up all night volunteering for the water authority. The Lake Barcroft Dam breached and there was a house that was in danger of "falling in". We removed most of the contents only to to find out in the AM that the house was luckily built on bedrock. It was going no where. It belonged to Jack Perkins, NBC news guy. We also made a rescue to a construction crew that could not
swim out from their now flooded construction site.

But the most memorable event was on Saturday evening as Agnes sated to make herself known. This would be my parents last night in NoVA as they were getting ready to move down to Venezuela (pre Chavez). I had just started dating a young lady by the name of Debbie so I wanted her to meet them before they left. After work (we both worked in retail at Landmark Mall) we were on our way to Falls Church traveling on Old Columbia Pike. Just ahead, there was a tree down and I could see a set of headlights. Maybe someone was trapped? It was pouring but I got out to investigate. Before going, I told Debbie that if she heard anything, to hit the deck. I got to the car and a lady was in there with her hands frozen to the steering wheel. I coaxed her out and took her over to a house nearby.

Just then, I heard a crack and sure enough, a tree had fallen on my '69 Chevy Nova with Debbie inside! To this day, I still don't know how I did it but I was able to move the tree off the car. Damage was minimal and Debbie was OK. But I was battered. My pants and shirt were torn and I was soaking we but we went on and introduced Debbie to my family.

And that's...the rest of the story!

Stay safe!

Aside from all the unknown risks coming our way....that's an awesome Story Ernie!

Like you I'm itching to fish on my new Yak but with the storm... man it puts a damper on things... Totally do not want to wait until Spring to be on my Yak again!

Re: Who is watching Sandy?

What do I know, I'm just an old fart. I doubt the mud will get that far, but the water is sure going to be a lot less salty for a while. The stripers might not mind, but they might have to stay offshore or go to NC to find food.

Curly posted over on PRAC that POR will crest 15 ft over flood @ 30' and that's just the Potomac, there's a lot of water piling up on NY and PA that will come down the Susky. The Rap might not get as much this time, but I saw the bay at Pt Lookout a month after Agnes, and it looked like coffee with 2 shots of cream. I just hope I'm full of it, it's been known to happen.

Interesting.  I guess the flow past the channel prevents the water from really stacking up.  You still gotta get there though!@!

It doesn't take much for that to happen....seen it on many a high tide with a south wind.

Re: Who is watching Sandy?

I went for a drive to get some video and pics.  I also checked out the reservoir.  It's full again.  On the road down there I used a tow strap to clear a tree that was blocking most of the road. A fire dept SUV was on it's way out just after I cleared it.  I passed a cop on the way out where it goes from gravel to asphalt.
