Sunday afternoon smallies

My wife was away today so that meant I had some time to kill so of course I went to the river. I went to an area that has a decent Amount of shallower faster water Hoping the current oxygen would hold some fish. I managed to find a few Fishing from about 12:30 to about 4. It was a little slower than I thought but managed to find a few.

1st fish was a little Average size12" small mouth that hit a White swim bait. I got to the shallower faster water hoping to find a.few.  I was throwing the fluke, choppo, swimbait, and shad.co!or crankbait. Got two to snack the flume but did the rookie mistake of.setting the hook before feeling the weight.  Got to the top of the shallow rocky area and threw the fluke right up next to the bank in less than a foot of water in the shade.  Right away there was pig swirl But the fish missed it so I didn't do anything and I saw the wake and swirl as he went after it again and this time he did miss. After a few minutes After I landed a nice 17 1? ?4 smallie.

Continue to work a little bit more of that shady bank And landed two aerage size Average size small mouth on the chappo.  Always gotta love the top water hit no matter how big they are.

I turned around and headed back towards where I launched to work an area of shallower faster water. I stayed along the shady bank and got another 1 about 13" to explode on the chappo and shallow water. Unfortunately when I got to the shallower area, had a little bit of heartbreak.  I was standing on a rock throwing the fluke in the attic area downstream And I saw another nice one following it in. So I stopped reeling and let Fluke fall of the bottom. The fish grabbed the entire fluke and turned the swim off and when I set the hook a line broke  It must have had a nick in the line.

I switched to swimbait over to a small plastic helgrimmitre To try to downsize and do something different. Ended up catching 3 smaller ones in that area before I call it a day. I ended up with 7All mainly smaller with a nice 17 1? ?4 mixed in there

Oh man, the line snapping is tough.  But what in the world are you guys feeding those fish up there?  The hunchback smallie of the UP!

That was actually the Shenandoah, most of my single access outings are from that River

Good job getting a few while the wife was away.  Those line breaks are a bummer.
