5-7-26, UP

It was cloudy and cool when we started and sunny and warm when we finished. Alas...the wind forecast was wrong...again. mad

But we managed to have a nice day!

The morning bite (fluke) was outstanding, many bites, many lost fish and many caught fish!

Once the sun and wind came to play, things slowed down a bit. We even had an east wind that was no where near what they were predicting. Interestingly, it was really slow then.

But lunch was excellent!

After we ate and stretched our legs, George gets hammered and yells, "whoa"!! Chris says, "If that's a smallie, it's 23-24 incher"! The fish was strong but the wrong kind.

The fight was great and got the adrenaline running!

For the day, we had 15-16 fish on the line that either broke off or got off. Some were very nice fish for sure. Frustrating but it is what it is! We were getting bit.

We ended up catching the same number that we lost so all is well in VA!

As I've said before, Chris is outstanding on reading the water and handles the oars as good as anyone. It's always a pleasure to fish with him.

I'm tired...a good tired.

PS- the helicopter. Maybe George can tell about it.

PPS- the pics. There were several fish that were camera shy. Good ones too. The reason is that most of the time, we are moving and the camera guy is on the oars trying to squeeze through an opening. So we land the fish and back in the drink they go. We are rarely anchored or in slower moving water.

Re: 5-7-26, UP

What a day - weather was epic, cloudy, chilly at first, them when the sun hit the water, the fish didn't stop feeding.  Definately past the pre spawn funk.  Fish were slamming flukes all day with an occasional fish hitting swimbaits

That catfish was fun!  Demolished a swinbait when it hit, rod bent in half, drag screaming - and I lock mine down - and the fight was one.  On a ML rod at that too.  Meow

PS- the helicopter. Maybe George can tell about it.

Saw a rotorcraft pilot in training.  They were coming up river right in front of us, then the pilot pulled the chopper up at a 90d vertical straight up until it stalled.  Then rolled it and recovered.  That's hotdogging it.  Way cool!  We were all hoping we wouldn't have to initiate a rescue but the pilot was too good for that.

We also saw something white, about the size of a head, caught in a tree but decided it was to scary to investigate.

Found three canoes too.  One was trashed, the others look like they floated away and got caught in an eddy and then got pinned on shore.

Sandwiches were too gourmet for this crowd.  But were devoured within minutes.

Pollen was nasty.  Everywhere.  Our lung's filters were all working on overtime.

Even had a mini bikini hatch at the end of the float

Life is good

Sounds like another great day for you guys.  Helicopters, fishing, sammies, and a bikini hatch....well if that doesn't say it all.  Except for the 23-24 incher! haha

One was roast beef and one was turkey but they were both decked out to the max. Outstanding!

It's always a good day when you have a solid flute bike going. Nicely done guys because that looks like a really fun day on the water. Bummer about losing some big fish but as we all know that's the name of the game sometimes.
