George and I were able to meet up last Thursday for a float. Of course it had to be the day of 55° and some wind and rain when it was literally 80° the day before and then the day after. But you fish when you can and don't complain
We met up a little later than normal to accommodate my schedule but quickly loaded stuff up in my vehicle and went up to the starting point. George did start off pretty quick. Having a couple on the fluke, including a nice little blow up that I heard and didn't see. Floated through a few good areas that should have yielded a few fish but just couldn't get any to hit. I was throwing a suspending jerkbait, swimbait, small little crankbait, and an old WinCo cold water delight. George was throwing the fluke in a swimbait I believe
About halfway through the float, I ended up switching over to the reliable Ned rig with the purple color that usually produces. Managed to pick a small one up as we floated around the back side of an island trying to beat The wind. As we made it past the island I noticed my kayak was feeling a whole lot more tippy than it should and can feel some water inside of it. So I pulled off on a little brush Island, opened up the drain plug in the back and dumped a whole lot of water out of it. Turns out early on in the trip I had opened up my small little center hatch to grab a snack and didn't seal it properly. So some wind and water from going through a few small rapids had went down inside. Good news is there was no holes and it was simply just user error of not sealing a hatch properly.
Would have reach the end of the float. George had six or seven fish all between 13 and about 15 in. I believe. He did lose a big one he caught a glimpse of unfortunately. I ended up with five on the Ned rig all in that same size range. I did feel something with some weight briefly with the crankbait but it didn't stick.
It wasn't the best day but we caught fish and had a good time and I wasn't working. Of course we all know George never has that last problem ??

You guys caught a few and found the beginning of the fluke bite.
Amazingly, I was 60 miles or so below you and it was a gorgeous day!
I had that same feeling once in my yak on a float from Brunswick to Lander. However, when I pulled over, I saw the crack. Had to walk/wade back to the ramp while pulling the yak. I was not a happy camper. I believe that was the start of me getting rid of my yaks.

And we gotta work out
Started out no wind and the fish liked that. Then the wind started lightly blowing. With a little chill
About 1/2 way into the float, the wind was blowing strong. We had to keep paddling or we were blown up river. For a long time too.
Felt like Arnold when I got off the water and slept like a rock that night

Always gives me anxiety about leaks, so glad things worked out for you. Sounds like a great day on the water and not at work! And yes...something most of the guys here don't have to worry about!
