Met Jimmy at the ramp at 5:30am and we were not the first ones on the water. Decided to make a run to stay ahead of the crowd. Stopped to try for some topwater action. The fish were busting but not connecting on topwaters. Decided to try plastics on little wobblebeads. That was the ticket and Jimmy struck first.

I may have caught one or two, but Jimmy was connecting with the bigger fish.

We had about 10 fish at that spot and then moved on. A couple good ones got off and there were 3 Bald Eagles in one tree watching us. The next spot started slow, but we drifted into some better water and then this happened.

We decided to work the MD side a little and I got one on the little buzzbait, which was really cool.
We continued picking off fish here and there. Losing a few on the way.

A stong fight turned into this.
More smallies. We caught some on cranks too.

Then another big one!

We continued catching fish sporadically. Just when we were ready to move.

There was one crazy thing that happened when we were floating an island. We were floating slow in water less than 3 feet deep. I cast a flatworm in front of us downstream. Something grabbed it and took off, pulling drag very fast and then a loud pop. The line broke at the leader, but it sounded like the rod snapped. It was most likely a carp. Keeps youi wondering though.

Jimmy had to get off the water around noon, so we made it by about 12:15pm. Final total was 16 smallies and 2 catfish for me and 16 smallies (and 3 over 18 inches) for Jimmy. Good morning on the water.

That's one heck of a day to say the least. Nicely done

Great stuff. Buzzbaits are my favorite way to catch smallies.

I fixed the duplicates. between pictures from 2 cameras and copying and pasting it is easy to make mistakes.

Once you get started, you won't look back. Hands down. More fun than largemouth any day of the week
