I decided to get out early for a shorter session due to heat and possible storms. River had come down to 5 feet at Point of Rocks. I noticed the turbidity had jumped and that was not what I wanted. Almost Full moon through the clouds.
The water was pretty muddy, so no topwater and my first spot was no good. I had to go to plan B. I tried a couple spots on an island and eventually had to make a longer run to find clearer water. It was not clear, but I got the skunk off with the big TRD.

Bite was slow, so I decided to try the crankbait. I was surprised I got bit right away. Catfish.
Then I got bit by a smallie on the next cast.

Then I snagged that crankbait and ended up breaking off. I re-tied with another same crank, different color.

Then one on the big TRD.

That was it for that spot. I ended up floating another island heading back. I got bit in a shaded bank on the TRD. A little guy.
Then I tried one of George's jigs with a double tail grub.
Poor picture.
I was reeling the jig in when it got smashed.
Back to the TRD.
Then another.

I was floating and casting and kept getting bit.

They were all strong fish. Then I got this.
That cat was much bigger than it looks. It pretty much destroyed my rig and I had fished longer than I planned, so I called it. Off the water about11:3
0.
I had one really cool thing happen when I was fishing the shore near a huge, downed tree. I heard hug wings flapping and a Turkey landed on the tree. Before I could get a picture, it flew back into the woods. Oh, and I just counted. 13 Smallies and 3 catfish!

As much as I love fishing clear water, an occasional dirty water trip on a river can be a nice change of pace. You definitely made the most of it.
