River 5/27.2025 Big numbers and heartbreak.

I got out for an early morning outing before the rain today.  I had an appointment for later in the afternoon.  River just dropped below 4 foot at Point of Rocks and the water temps were in the lower 60's.  On the water just before 5:30am.

I was hoping to get on a topwater bite.  There was surface activity at my first spot, but nothing hit the choppo or chug bug.  I repositioned and they were busting on the surface, so I just threw other things I had tied on.  I got hit and reeled in the 12"er.  This continued until 7:00am.  I caught 20 there on several lures and lost a big one that threw the tube at the boat.  I did not take pictures of many of the fish due to size and hot bite.  Most were 12-14 inches.  I also had one break off a little chatterbait I had on 6 pound line.

The bite died down there and I made a move.  At the first stop I hooked another big one on the tube and fought it for a while.  As I was getting ready to net it, the fish threw the hook.  Then I saw the hook was bent out.  After a couple fish almost swallowed the tubes, I stopped using those.

I got into my second feeding frenzy.  Not as heavy as the first one, but pretty consistent bites.  I was above 30 fish.

I had one other break off.  I ended with 36 fish and got off the water by noon as it started sprinkling.  Caught fish on various small jigs, tubes, Avacado Green Stingray grub, curly tail grub, Various Z-Man plastics on a swinging jig head, little chatterbait and crankbait.  Excellent morning with 36 smallies landed.  Several missed, 2 big fish lost at the boat and 2 break offs.  I was beat from fighting all those smallies, LOL.

What a day for you and the timing couldn't have been better!  Amazing numbers and I bet you are sore from all the fishing today.  That one with the really red eyes is pretty cool.

I need to get up there for a trip sometime.  It's been a long time since going SM fishing!

That is one really good morning.  Sorry about the heartbreak but that is the name of the game sometimes
