Woke up at 0300 with a headache. It wouldn't go away, so after a couple Tylenol and Advil, tried to sleep but it didn't work.
Alarm rang at 0515, took a few more Tylenol and decided to man up and head for the river.
First fish was huge, but between not feeling good, a headache, and a hook in my hand decided to forgo any pix. Hook wasn't in my beyond the barb so let the fish go and removed the hook. Caught a few more fish and my buddy said even sick, I'm outfitting him.
The day was still young. The fish were very active in the morning and we were catching them non stop. Stixbait and swimbaits were the key.
Then I hear my buddy start hooping and hollering and he had a big one on. He landed his personal best
Shortly afterwards he landed another walleye - around 19". I asked who's out fishing whom?
As the sun came out the bite slowed down, but both of us got good numbers and a personal best for my buddy.
Good day.
Got home, dumped all my gear in the garage, took a hot shower, and 15 hours later, feel like a new man. Sort of

Beauty of a walleye. Did he bring the eyes home for dinner?

Great job toughing it out for some good fishing. Beauty of a Walleye. Had a couple of those "not feeling well, but got out anyway" days. They are usually much better than average.

No. I did mention it, but in a kayak with at least five miles to the take out, it didn't happen.
Although I agree. God did make walleye for the fillet knife.

To me, walleye are bonus fish. But the last few I've caught, along with my buddies catches, were all caught dragging and bouncing swim baits along the bottom of rocky structure. They like flashy colors
They are usually much better than average.
Isn't that the way it always works?

I saw the tail end of that fish first and thought there's a 22-in smallmouth and then when I got to the front I realized it was the wrong species. But one heck of a walleye definitely.
Sorry you had to fight through the cluster headaches but props for doing that and at least catching at a big fish to make it worth it.
