I got out early.  Here is a picture of the boat with the seats in and a new trolling motor.  Still might do more mods later, but this setup works good for me fishing solo.



Got on the water by 6am.  Caught 1 decent catfish early on the flatworm.  No pic.  Then it got slow.  I finally decided to run further upriver. 

I found a good spot at the head of an island.  I saw a big snakehead (first time seeing one in the UP).  It was over 24 inches easy.  I thought it was a log or piece of wood, then it surfaced to gulp air.  I cast at it, but no bite.  Something surfaced behind me and I cast out to where it was.  I hooked up with a good fish, but it came unbuttoned.  This happened a couple more times, then I landed this one on the Ernie special. 





It was chunkier than it looks and put up a great fight.  I kept fishing that area and had several more misses and 3 fish landed (2 jig, 1 flatworm).  Two were around 12 (fat) and one smaller.

That bite died and I trolled over to the middle and started floating and casting.  Caught this fattie and one smaller.



I kept getting bites off and on.  Here are some highlights.







The flatworm was the hot bite, but there had to be current and rocks.  The light wind worked against the current and it was nice to float, but too slow to get bit.  I was catching smaller fish that I did not take pictures of.  I decided to try a double tailed grub in a swing head jig and it caught my big fish for the day.



Then it was back to the flatworm for the rest of the bites.  This one would not close his mouth.



Then another.



And a fat one that went around 12.



All together, I landed 17 and lost a bunch.  Great day to be out.  Saw a hawk, deer, pileated woodpecker, and lots of other waterfowl, egrets and herons.  Off the water by 1:30pm  Felt good to be back on the water.
