Except for a few venues like the "O" and other favorite places, I like to go out and explore. So that's what George and I did today as we splashed the boat at a new ramp (to me). While we would fish some known water, we did fish some areas that neither of us had fished before.

The river looked good but was slightly stained and fast. When we started, the water temp was 59dF. It was 64dF when we took out.

Finding decent eddies was a chore. They just weren't there. This part of the river has lots of structure but it was under water today. No was to fish rocks. Surprisingly, the river took a nice rise while we were out there.



I had seen the predictions but didn't believe them as we really did not get any rain to support the rise. But from somewhere, the water came! And fast! No clue where it came from!

George took the skunk off with a 20"er (minimum)!



At least he let me take the action shot!

He then caught a big smallie wannabe!



Hungry dude!

George had a few bites and a couple of fish that were on and then off. Me? I did not feel a bite all day! And as Greg mentioned, running the boat in the fast water was a bit of a PIA but that gets negated by the stories and laughter.

The wildlife was plentiful and the cool morning weather disappeared quickly enough for me. Beautiful (but smoky) day!

There were two distinct positives for the day (other than the fact of getting out on the water).

1. About mid morning, George hooks into something big and a fight ensued. He lamented that it might be another kittie. Until it jumped! I caught it out of the corner of my eye and it was a big smallie. The fight continues as George tries to fight the current and land this beast. I had put the boat in spot-lock which in retrospect, could have caused what happened.

The fish then took a second leap...clean out of the water and we knew this was a citation or close to it. But before it landed, the smallie flipped the bird to George and got off. Man, it was absolutely thrilling to watch this fight.

George handled it like a champ but he will have nightmares tonight!

2. On the way to fishing with Greg last week, I had noticed a new name on a small restaurant, "Roadhouse Jerk". So I told George that we would stop there for lunch. Oh my! What a great decision that was!

George had the curried goat with some extra Habanero peppers.



I had the Brown Stew Chicken.



It was so good that I got some rice and peas to take home as well as some Jamaican patties. This place is the real deal. Will rival any of our known lunch spots!!
