So, the DWR guy (Alex) that does public relations stuff invited a wildlife writer from Roanoke to fish and interview another fisherman here at LKA today. His boat was not big enough to invite John Odenkirk to go with them. So the other boat captain calls me to see if Odenkirk can ride and fish with me, so that John can be interviewed after lunch. So that's what we do and also get Odenkirk's technician to come on my boat too. Other boat is on the water by 6:30 and caught 3 stripers before John and Reggie show up at my dock at 8 am. WE waste the first hour looking for stripers up my way. We move down lake and eventually find them. Even though John is in charge of the striper and hybrid stocking program here, he has never caught a hybrid here. That changed with this 16" throw back.
Reggie catches the next one and is a keeper striper.
Yes, there are 8 rods not being used in the rodholders in front of us (and 6 more up in the front you can't see, plus the 6 trolling rods being used = 20 rods on the boat today ).
We lose the next five fish before John gets the last striper today.
We call it a day around 1pm and meet back at my dock for John's interview. I declined an interview request to keep a low profile.
