Went up to Floyd County to stay with my old hunting partner Dan of 25 years in Ashburn. Dan moved outside Roanoke 3 years ago. Got there a little after noon and we scouted around some. I found a spot that looked good and got in the woods around 3:30 with my muzzleloader. About 5 pm a 4 pointer walks in behind me. I twist like a pretzel in the stand and get a good shot.
Next morning we get in our stands before sunrise. It is regular rifle season now. Dan shoots around 7 am and gets a spike. About and hour later two does walk right towards down a trail. I get both. One of them is huge.
We spend the morning skinning deer. And then take 2 of the heads to the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing station for manditory testing that day. They pulled the lymph glands in the neck to test. We get results in around 2 weeks. Disease does not transfer to humans.
Now a fridge full of my 3 deer to take home Monday morning.
Took me almost 4 hours to process all that meat at home.......definitely stocked up with venison for a while!

Nice Curly! I got out a lot, but only had a chance at babies. The one decent doe that came up....well.....it snuck up on me! lol. Anyway, I'm changing my hunting setup. Updating gear and tactics. I did manage to setup the nephews for a couple good ambush shots. Saw the deer on my thermal and directed the boys on where to set up 200 meters down a ravine and bam, two in the freezer. Always enjoy being outdoors!
