Went down to visit my Dad who will be 89 December 21st. He lives right on the Indian River and has a dock there that we fish from when we visit. His equipment is not very good, but we usually just buy live shrimp for bait and see what we can catch. Mostly Mangrove Snapper, some Sheepshead and miscellaneous saltwater surprises. At low tide we usually get some pesky catfish. This time I was using a really large shrimp and caught a nice size catfish called a Gafftopsail. It has really long extensions coming off it's fins and long whiskers. Turns out the dorsal fin spine is very venomous.
My wife caught a decent Jack that gave her a tussle.
I caught a couple decent ladyfish, but those pictures are on a different camera.
Coolest part was the pods of porpoise that came by daily, a pelican that stayed on one of the posts while I fished and finally got a smaller ladyfish I was throwing back, and the Manatees at the nearby park (inlet) where they raise their young.

Nice fish and great way to spend Thanksgiving. For me the best part of the post was the last paragraph describing the dolphin, pelican, and manatee. THAT is great spot to live. Some day I plan to be there too (after I pay for my kids (plural) colleges).
