Memorial Day (May 26) float

Anyone interested in floating a local river/creek on Monday morning?

I have a canoe for your use but you will need to transport it yourself.

Any suggestions on where to go (assuming rivers are behaving)?

Re: Memorial Day (May 26) float

I will keep checking back to see if this takes off. If nothing else happens, my default will be hitting LHC/D creeks in Alexandria. They are usually (emphasis added to usually) pretty calm, especially D. D was very high and muddy last weekend (duh . . .). There were a lot of snakehead sightings, with no results unfortunately.

The annual Memorial Day float is what got me into kayaking. Wish I could join you somewhere, but we're attending our grandson's HS graduation in Tennessee.
Just like fishing, only different.

So far, Ernie, Herman, Andrew, Greg and maybe Il Duce.

Where do you guys want to go?

Wanna float Lander to POR?

Or just go to Algonkian and paddle/peddle aground?

Tyler may be in as well.
Algonkian means we have to paddle BACK upstream.  I remember that from a couple years ago...yuck in my slow 10' Tarpon.  I have never fished Lander to POR.  So, that is my vote.

Re: Memorial Day (May 26) float

Herman proposed that if the Potomac is still running high, we could take the  kayaks to Lake Frederick or Occoquan Reservoir.

Personally, I prefer to stay local so we can get home for afternoon festivities.

Definitely understand taking into account how high the Potomac is running.  What about doing one of the creeks off the potomac (Mattawoman, Kanes, etc)?  Just an idea.

I'm not far from Percy Priest or Old Hickory, but the kayak is 627 miles away

Really, anywhere is fine with me.  I just want to get out fishing anywhere.  I will follow your lead.  I won't be around this weekend until Sunday night.

Re: Memorial Day (May 26) float

I was on tidal Potomac yesterday (Occoquan River, Belmont Bay over to Gunston Cove and Pohick Bay) Water was quite stained. On the plus side, not much debris. River levels are dropping so looking forward to upper river reports. I'd like to join this float if conditions improve...

Re: Memorial Day (May 26) float

I went up to Goose Creek and fished the creek.  It was in decent shape (green with a stain).  I fished back in the river and it ranged from green stained to muddy.  Upriver should be better.  Fishing was much better in the creek.  I only caught 3 small SM in the river.  Two just drifting with a tube and one on a rebel wee crayfish.  Nice day but got warm and was getting crowded.  Definitely not "on fire".

Unfortunately, I need to drop out for tomorrow. There should be enough interest to get something done somewhere.
