Dulles Toll Road RATE HIKE!

Go do something about it; send a letter!

A 30-day public comment period regarding the proposed toll rate increases along the Dulles Toll Road began Friday. The proposal calls for the combined main plaza and ramp tolls, which currently cost $2.25 for two-axle vehicles, to increase as follows: $2.75 in 2013, $3.50 in 2014 and $4.50 in 2015, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).

An “online open house” for public comment is available at mwaa.com/tollroad.

Those interested may also opine through traditional mail:

MWAA
1 Aviation Circle
Washington, D.C. 20001-6000

or at one of three forthcoming public hearings along the Dulles Corridor.

Those public hearing will take place Sept. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn; Sept. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at South Lakes High School in Reston; and Sept. 13 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spring Hill Elementary School in McLean.

Seems to me, that if they lowered the price, they would make more and get some traffic off of waxpool.
Who is going to pay 4.50 to go a couple of miles?
I will visit the web site.

That is absurd!  The only other alternative is Route 7 and that isn't a viable option.  My letter is in the mail!!

Re: Dulles Toll Road RATE HIKE!

That is just crazy. We all saw what happened last January when the greenway up'ed its tolls. Everyone now clogs 7 and 28. The original purpose for the toll on the road was to pay for the road which I assume happened years ago. Now it is just a cash cow for the MWAA to dump into other projects. Someone really needs to sit down with the MWAA  and greenway folks in a locked room and beat some sense into them.

Re: Dulles Toll Road RATE HIKE!

Based on their numbers (from the presentation available online) the operating costs for the toll road, including management, maintenance, and toll road upgrades is about $62M.  Based on about 100K cars traveling through the main tolls per day they currently gross about $82M per year.  That is $20M profit.  Nowhere in their presentation do they project how the revenue from the Metro extension will pay off the loans they took out to pay for the Metro.  They only show the Toll Road revenues being used to pay off the loans.  I can accept a small portion of the toll road revenues being used to pay for the Metro loans because it will reduce some of the congestion, but they already make a profit of $20M!!!  That is more than the fair share of the Toll Road users to pay.  This is absurd!

I hopefully will be able to go to the meeting at Stone Bridge.

I recommend you all move down here to Richmond. The most expensive tollroad I have seen is .20. Also, there just isn't much traffic here. The joke is that it is rush half-hour. Oh, and plenty of water to fish. PLENTY!

Re: Dulles Toll Road RATE HIKE!

It turns out that Metro is paying 0% (that is ZERO PERCENT) of the cost of building the Metro out to Reston and eventually the Airport!  After the State funding and some Virginia/Fairfax/Loudoun funding, the Toll Road users are paying the remaining >50% of the total cost. 100% of Metro fares will go to Metro and will NOT be used to pay any portion of the debt incurred for the new Metro line.   That is unbelievable!  Please sign the Petition (http://notollincrease.blogspot.com/p/sign-petition.html)
