Basswood Poppers for the Fly Rod

I came across a great how to video on Kayakbassfishing.com and decided to give this a shot.  Picked up some basswood blocks, paints, and brushes at Michaels in Sterling and got the fly materials at various places.  Start to finish these take a while .....

Here is the link to the instructions I followed:  http://www.kayakbassfishing.com/kbfBB3/ … mp;t=14244

Re: Basswood Poppers for the Fly Rod

Very nice flies....

I have always wondered why put eyes on the top of poppers ?

Follow along I am getting somewhere with this. It make take some time but it is going somewhere.

OK the fish ambush from below based on the silhouette so eyes are not really needed. But the fisherman sees the eyes and associates the critter it imitates. Spelling is tough at times....

If the eyes are for the fisherman's pleasure why not make them supper day glow orange or pink. That way when fished they are easy to track. Also a trick learned from the cheap rebel poppers is to tin foil the cup to reflect light down and around.. It will flash and attack fish. Also in low light once again be easy to track.

See it went some where.
