Met Ernie and Khanh at the ramp around 5:45 am. We we first to splash and Ellen and I headed up to the 2nd island. Could not get a bite center or MD shoreline. Floated the VA side for all our bites. Ellen lost a 3+ pound smallie and only had a channel cat to show for her efforts. I caught 6 or 7 smallies, but nothing over 12". Here's 2 of the smallies:

We got off the water around 9:15 and as I was pulling out of the park, I saw this on my trailer from the mirror..........

A BIG water snake had become trapped between my boat and the trailer running board. Drove back to the ramp and floated the boat.............the snake swam away

I'll tag along since Curly got this started.

As he said, Curly, Ellen and Khahn were at the ramp and they all got on the water quickly. Curly went north. Greg and Tyler came up with their kayaks and along with Khahn, we headed south.

So we headed down towards Seneca Breaks.....

Interesting root system....

I was fishing the middle of the river on the ledges and caught a few and lost a few. This one went 12".

This one 13"!

I then headed to the MD line where I spotted a big ole tree down and some current running by it. 1st fish was 13" and then the big one of the day hit.....

He was 16.5" and feisty! Hopefully, Greg's picture will do it justice.

We then went all the way down to the breaks....

....but only caught a few small fish. It looked fishy, I wished we had spent more time there but we had a long paddle back to the ramp. So back we went until I saw a big tree in the water. I had to throw something and I was rewarded.

OK...not big but he slammed my craw jig!

We got back to the ramp and it was busy...

Normally, I don't like jet skis but this one was good. These two dogs (very short legs) could not wait to get on with mom and dad.

Nice folks....

Off the water before noon and lunch at Pollo Factory.....nice day indeed.

BTW, that paddle back was almost 2.5 miles. Took us 52 minutes of paddling time.

I missed that last picture....that snake should have been crushed being under the boat!

That's what I thought.......that it would be dead.............looked dead until I floated the boat again..............and it swam off.

I don't think Ellen will be getting back in the water there again. She was in the water holding the boat for me while I backed the trailer down the first time........that snake had to be right next to her when I trapped it on the trailer.

Great day on the water! Sunrise on the Potomac was spectacular!

We had a great time as usual with Ernie. Not too many fish, but still beautiful. I love the picture below of the sillouette of Ernie on the water. Very artsy!

Tyler and I caught a few smallies and cats. Nothing to brag about. Tyler did catch a Crappie on a white Buzzbait.

I didn't get many pics of fish because we were all spread out. Except Ernie's 16.5 inch Smallie. I was about 1/4 mile away and all of a sudden I hear Ernie hoopin and hollerin! I look up and see a big splash (from 1/4 mile). So, I bust a gut paddling over to him and find him with a big grin on his face. It was a nice bass and a nice bit of reading the river to find the spot he would be hiding in.

I did get a LMB at the Breaks at the confluence of the creek and the potomac. No pic. Another great float trip. Can't wait till the next time out on the water.
