Greg and I met up with CT at 7:20a to start our shuttle.
The weather was spectacular as it was only going to be 82-83dF with moderate humidity. There were chances of T-storms but not until after we got off. We did check the radar a few times when the clouds moved in after lunch and the humidity went up some. We did get some light rain at one point but it was nothing to write home about...it was refreshing. Interestingly, the fish got inactive for a bit during this time.
Glorious start!

The skunk came off with a nice long ear BG.
Then Greg caught a small smallie but would not let me take a pick. His next one was better.
We then caught a bunch!
This one made me jealous...a native Rock Bass.
But I was able to get one too...
...albeit a little smaller.
Greg got his slam (smallie, rock bass, BG).
This guy was just sitting on the shore line, chilling out until we spooked him a bit.
More catching.

Best baits were the ZMan Coppertreuse 3.5" Trick Shotz on a belly weighed hook and the Berkley MaxScent Flat worm (natural colors) with a belly weighted hook.
This was a non-no. Most land owners know that having their cows mash up the shoreline is not good for the river. This landowner has not heeded the message.
Today we hit One Hour Hole but it did not produce as well as past trips. But we found another hole, "Dead Sycamore", where we caught quite a few.
Towards the final stretch, Greg hooked in to a nice fish and he fought hard. CT was getting ready to net it when I got slammed by a nice fish. I'm hollering that my fish is taking a ton of lie but the other guys were focused on Greg's fish. I said, "crap, it broke off" and Greg thought I was trash talking him.It was not until Greg's fish was landed that they realized we had 2 big fish on at the same time. I cred. Greg rejoiced!
A VERY nice 18"er which is a biggie for down there.
Another great day of catching with CT Campbell and Greg.
I am pretty sure we caught over 100 smallies.
FUN day!!

That is an amazing day for sure! Such a great river to have close by. Too bad you lost the big one. That always sticks with you. I just bought some of the ZMan Coppertreuse 3.5" Trick Shotz. Thought I recognized it. Have not used it yet.

Well...kinda. It takes 1:40 to get down there (Luray). But once you pass Rt. 15 on Rt. 66, the scenery changes to mountains and it's a relaxing drive.

I started using these 2 years ago and it was killer on the 'doah down there. Especially at the One Hour Hole (which really isn't a hole but a stretch of the river). When Greg switched up to it, he started catching like crazy. He had a banner day!

Agreed. A great day! CT is so good at putting the boat in the right spot and slowing it down when needed. I know Ernie loves not having to worry about all that for once. I started throwing topwater without much action and then switched to a bellyweighted swimbait also without much action. Ernie always raves about the ZMan Coppertreuse, so I asked him for a few to fish with and my whole day turned around. That bait is magic on that river. I put my order in for a bunch this morning.
The big fish towards the end of the day was a great bonus. Nice to know there are a few out there in that stretch. I was so focused on fighting the fish and CT was so focused on the net, that we both had no clue Ernie was fighting his own big fish. I thought he was commenting on mine the whole time. HA! The confusion of chaos!
