9/11/26 Fountainhead

After cancelling Wednesday due to forecasted wind and a morning rain delay today, Jimmy and I got out on the water by about 8:20am.  Water looked great and the weather cloudy, but rain stopped.

We made a run and it an area we had some success last year.  It started slow.  Jimmy finally got on the board with a tiny LM that somehow was hooked in the back.  Skunk out of the boat.

We worked around the back of the cove and Jimmy caught a better LM.

We worked around and decided to try a few casts in a back bay area that is pretty shallow.  Jimmy saw his line moving sideways and I said "set the hook!"  It was big and the fight was on.

That was a rush.  Things slowed after that for a while.  Jimmy got a few nips, but no hook ups.  We made a run.

Jimmy finally got one on a jig and worm.

Then I finally got on the board.  On a swim bait.

The tough thing about fishing there this time of year is that all of the shad are schooling up and swimming back to the coves.  It is eye candy for chasing and casting, but rarely do you ever catch a fish doing that.  I do not have FF sonar and my fish finder sonar has not been working.  I caught a contender for the tiny bass trophy.

Then we were working a shoreline and I found a pattern.  I was tossing a Z-Man Goat next to downed trees and got a decent one.

We stopped to eat lunch and I started tossing a tiny craw lure for bluegills.  They stole the craws but while retrieving to re-cast, I caught a trophy.

Back to the pattern.

Jimmy caught one on a mini chatterbait and we each lost a couple at the boat.  My largest bass (maybe 2+ pounds) got off as I was netting it.

The afternoon bite was definitely batter once we figured them out.  We had fun and got off the water about 2:45pm

Unfortunately, that is not easy now.  Will likely be travelling more to fish for the near future anyway.
