River 7/13/26

I was supposed to fish with Jimmy today, but he had an appointment that was not on his calendar.  I got out early, solo.

I had high hopes, a full tank of gas and time to make things happen.  I ran a bit and stopped for what I hoped would be a topwater bite.  Nothing biting, so I made a long run.

I got settled just outside a small shoreline eddy that has produced in the past.  I got a couple nips on one bait and decided to try a different offering.  I felt some pressure and checked it.  It was a bite and I set the hook on this chunk.  It jumped and gave a good fight.  I noticed the top part of the tail did not look healthy.

I floated out of that spot and tried some rocks and areas where there were baitfish, but managed only one little smallie in that area.

I tried a bunch of lures mid river below that and really got nothing.  There was brown water starting to mix in from the MD side.

I made a run back downstream and decided to float faster looking water.  The wind from the SE made a TM assisted drift necessary.  I pretty much stuck with a Keitech on a sled head due to rocks and grass.  It took a little while, but I got 2 sallies that fought way over their weight class.

Then I caught a little guy that tore up my Keitech.  I replaced it with a different color and did not get much attention.  The wind picked up and I decided to eat my sandwich.  When I finished, I made a couple casts with the Keitech.  I got a hit as soon as it hit the water with the first cast but did not hook up.  On the second cast, I felt a take and when I set the hook, the rod loaded and then the line broke.

I tried different lures and got no love.  Just one dink.  The wind felt nice but really made fishing a pain.  I decided to call it.

I caught 6 and missed a few bites.  I ran back to the ramp and got to see the parade.

Made it off the water by 1pm.  Tough fishing and no topwater bite.  Nice morning to be out on the water though.

You got some...good! I really dislike any wind with an E on it.

Nice job.

If my wife knew one could launch a sail boat or Hobie cat, there's be one in the back yard
