I had the chance to go out and pull the kayak out for the first time this year. So I hit my local spot and after going through the security checks (that's right....2 physical ID checks and 1 electronic sign in) I was ready to launch. Again....my favorite to keep the rif raf out since I now know a couple of the federal wildlife officers who look for these shmucks.
Anyway, it's 59 degrees and the wind is starting to pick up and I go directly to a deep shoal that I recognized from the previous year. My first cast of the season and bam I'm on with a nice little largemouth bass. Literally within a 10 minutes span I had three takers with 2 of them coming off. 30 minutes later I move to a sheltered shoreline from the wind and I get what I think is a catfish. Then the fight starts and I realize it's snakehead. I was not expecting it so I was a little underprepared.
Spent the next hour peddling around and enjoying the scenery. Logged out in just under 2.5 hours and was home cleaning up the SH for the freezer and prepped for some garden work!
Easily one of my best first days of fishing ever.

I like to talk to myself sometimes or think that I have someone with me. I find myself doing a lot by myself lately because of all the scheduling conflicts. It's just better to go do it instead of waiting on others. But you can see my enthusiasm for the moments and believe me.....i cherish them!

Usually catching a fish on the first cast is bigtime jinx. Good job on beating it!
