12-4 Report

With light winds and a balmy 31 degrees start to the day and we headed out to catch catfish. First spot had a few marks but no bites. Second spot same thing. Moved to three more spots with a few marks. Caught three and then the wind came up. Moved again and had lots of marks but only one cat came to the boat before tide change. Called it a day with 16 mph winds and 44 degrees.

Something I noticed besides lack of fish was lots of water bottles and other plastic bottles with lines attached to them above bridge and in National Harbor. Are there supposed to be license numbers on these bottles.?

Then snow this morning and full moon. Third main river trip this year with only 4 caught. Makes you wonder.

Re: 12-4 Report

We had another Supermoon, the Cold Moon. That's enough for me to not even think about fishing.

I looked up Jug fishing in MD...

The DNR has a few regulations for jug fishing:

May only be used in tidal tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay
May only be used from July 1-February 28
Must be attended between sunset and sunrise
May use up to 10 jugs with no more than 2 hooks per line and no more than one line per jug
Must be marked with the individual's DNRid number
May not be used to take largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, all shark species, snapping turtles and any threatened or endangered species

Hard to believe there is a shortage of catfish.  It would be interesting to see who is putting out those bottle/jug lines.

Re: 12-4 Report

I saw a post about DNR doing a big electro fishing effort in partnership with commercial fishermen to take the shocked fish to market. I think that was like last week? Might take a bit to recover?

Maybe it was awhile back - https://marylandmatters.org/2025/09/27/ … -invasion/ - but I thought I saw a post recently
