He was a good friend and an avid fisherman. He wrote for many fishing columns and for many newspapers. Heck he used to write for Tidal Fish also. Maybe WWW back in the day. He fished a club tournament last Wed in fact. Founder of Horizon Bass and a big supporter of kids derbies.

One day in my Gambler boat we fished a small river called the Dragon. As we entered the shallows he said "jack that engine up and let her rip." and run in 1 foot of water at 60 mph for next two miles. At the end we set down off of plane, I asked how did he know it was safe. " I did not know, but it is not my boat"

Classic story from a classic man. I remember him telling it to me. His stories, which were aplenty, we legendary.

He was a friend and mentor. Helped many a young kid including members of the BRHS fishing team. At one point, he had it set up that a BRHS team member would go out with one of the club members during a tourney. How cool is that?

I remember fishing with him once and he told me to change my lure and throw it to a particular spot. fish on! I looked at him and he had his classic grin on.

He will be missed greatly. He did a lot for the fishing community.

Sorry to hear about his passing. I never did get to meet him, but he obviously lives on through those who knew him.

When I moved to the right coast from CA, wife encouraged me to fish by sending me to a Charlie Taylor seminar at Wallmart. Bought a whole bunch of of fishing stuff when I was there. Shortly after, gotta Jon boat, engine, and more fishing stuff

Wife regrets the day she sent me to his seminar

Great guy very helpful, and loved to spend my money

I learned nothing from this great article ...because I had already heard it from Charlie over the years of fishing with him, at club meetings, at his house and even when he came to help me with the kids of the BRHS Fishing club.

Charlie was a local legend but more important, a true gentleman.

On Sunday, August 24th 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Charlie’s home (1402 Bakers Creek Ct., Herndon, VA), the family will be hosting an informal remembrance memorial. Arrive and depart in this timeframe; informal, open-house style. Light snacks will be served. Casual, come-as-you-are dress is highly encouraged; jeans and t-shirts are fine. They’ll have a canopy up outside because of possible rain as people are arriving, but everyone is invited inside to share remembrances of Charlie.

So sad to hear! I read his report every week for years and met him once. Loved his 9 pound LM reported caught at Beaverdam. Legend!
