July

Interesting 50 minute session in the heat.

Had a short stogie so I went fishing. It was hot.

The wide brim hat and slight breeze on my back  made it tolerable.  Kinda.

I had 4 baits: 2 brown flutter jigs, a ned (brown) and a belly weighted hook with a Stick O (grey/white.

Caught a little one with a flutter jig and proceeded to loose the jig.

Then I hooked a nice one with the other jig and proceeded to lose that one too but not before catching this guy.

Then I used the ned and caught another nice one but he jumped and got off. mad.  Also caught another little one.

Then I got a bite but it got cut off. I suspect a turtle.

I was down to my last bait. and I caught got this guy.

In total, I got 6-7 nice bites. Cigar was done and so was I. It was hot.

Note to Ernie: smoking a stogie while fishing in the heat after working out is a little dicey.

Re: July

River is very low.  Water is still stained and grass is about to top out in areas.  Can't wait for rain to get levels up to get a boat out.  Fish were feeding on little minnows, but I could not get a topwater bite (or weightless senko, or hula stick or baby goat on 1/16 oz swing head).

This is the structure that usually holds the baitfish.  They are now scattered in the grass.

Re: July

Short stogie session in the light rain.

Caught six, none bigger than @12". Thus, no pics.

Three on a hair jig and 3 on a Stick-O.

No more bites when the sun peeked out for a bit.

Re: July

Been a while since I've done an after dinner stogie session.

Landed 4 bass (biggest was maybe a pound) and a green sunfish.

Was cool to see the big grass carp finning. They are lake monsters!

I had 2 nice ones on that broke me off. But there was no fight so I'm guessing snapping turtles.

Re: July

Another evening stogie session that resulted in 4 bites (fish). I landed 3...all <12".

But I am going to go broke! I got cut off 5 times. Three were from turtles, I'm certain. Felt the bite, set the hook and pop goes the lure!

A couple of other times I got hung up and my lures broke off when I tugged (gently). There is something sharp down in one of the rock piles.

Today was supposed to be a good day to fish. A strong minor from 8-9p. I don't think the fish got the message. The major we at lunch time but I was walking then.
