The days have been far and few between for me to get out on the water. Mostly because I still work full time, but also when it does stop raining on the occasion I have a lot of work to do in the yard! This year seems to be a little more than I recall when it comes to rain and wind. I've only been able to get out in the boat once and the kayak once so far. Trout fishing is a totally different setup, so I don't count that as "getting on the water."
I know everyone says you have to make it a priority and I did in the aspects of gear, preparation and networking, but there is a whole balance of family, upkeep of home/land and weather.
How is everyone else doing it?
I live just a couple miles from my marina/potomac, and within 10 miles in every direction for lakes and access points. So getting there isn't the issue. Always will be time and competing priorities. But this weather so far has been less than ideal. Just ranting.

Yeah it has been windy and rainy this Spring. I don't mind rain cause it keeps crowds off the water and overcast days are my favorite, but the wind is maddening. I hope we have a calmer Summer cause it was rough every time I went out last Summer.
As far as making time, the woman and I have an understanding that Saturday is my fishing day, period. Unless there's an emergency or some type of important family gathering, (or horrible wind/ice) I'm going fishing. I take care of housework and chores during the week and on Sunday. Occasionally I'll flip Saturday and Sunday if Sunday is the only fishable day.
I'm 100% serious when I say that fishing is extremely important to my mental health, so I make it a priority!

We talked about this today while on the water.
Being retired, I have lots of choices during the week (M-F). In the past, I've always booked my fishing days way ahead of schedule and rolled the dice with the weather. This ensures that I have someone to fish with since I don't do solo. However, I may start looking at weather over the weekends and then book a trip or two that following week when the weather is good. Not sure how this is gonna work out for me.
Wind will get me cancelling quickly as will rain as my boat gets soaked (carpet) and I can't put it away wet or it will get moldy under the covers. I can't keep the boat in the 'hood.

My wife has understood this for years and is supportive. I do check her calendar to make sure there are no family (they come 1st) conflicts.

Soggy carpet is a PITA. I have to leave the boat uncovered for a couple days to let it dry out after a rainy fishing trip. I live in the country so I can keep it in the driveway here, not sure what I'd do if I kept the boat off site. This past Saturday it rained allll day long and everything was drenched.

Fortunately I am out of the public eye for the most part. There is no one coming to my door for halloween candy let alone the door to door sales people. But I still keep my boat in a boatel out of convenience and peace of mind. For me, it's this whole work thing. I have a lot of work travel still and this week is no different. Heading out to San Diego. It's also why I like to go kayak fishing on the military bases because it's not as crowded all the time due to security. That has a tendency to deter folks.
But I hear you about mental health being a priority. We make that a priority also. This week is going to get warm with less rain, so I expect to see you guys out there while I'm on travel. Good luck and stay safe!
