Welcome Aboard!

I woke up thinking it was Sunday and I put on my sweats and headed to the basement to get a workout before church....then I realized that it was Saturday and I needed to go pick up Doug McNair (Aches 'n Pains) so we could get to Carl's house since we were going fishing. So I got in the car and the next thing I know I am on Rt. 28 almost to the Toll Road. Doug lives just off of Rt. 7 in Reston....I am no where close to his house. Once I got that figured out, I picked him up and off we went.
After a few formalities, we all jumped in Carl's truck and to the Occoquan we headed! While we were on Braddock Rd., Carl stopped the car as he noticed that the boat was bouncing. he had forgotten to tighten the bow strap. We were lucky that the boat didn't come out of the trailer. We were also lucky that a nice citizen, who was behind us, stopped and picked up two lure boxes that flew off the truck because we had forgotten to stow them properly.
OK...now for the fishing.
It was in the mid 30s and the winds were fairly calm but we dressed warm.
We motored up past Rt. 95....
....and started fishing near some docks. Carl and Doug were using 1/4 oz Sliver Buddies and I was using a paddle tail grub in a 1/4 oz round jig. Of course, Carl caught the 1st fish....
And the 2nd fish.....
Finally, I caught one but no one would take my picture so here is the 1/2 shot.....
Carl caught some more but then...it happened! I had a huge strike and this almost 13" beauty came aboard!
There was some whooping and hollering going on as Carl had yet to catch one of this size! pretty fish!
Poor Doug had not caught one yet and but he toughed it out and got this guy in.....
....and then this nice one.....
Carl kept showing off and was schooling us.....
On the way back to the ramp, we fished the channel and I was able to catch a bass....
Our totals:
Carl had 28 yellow perch and 1 blue gill
Doug had 11 yellow perch and 1 blue gill
Ernie had 4 yellow perch and 1 bass
Carl's boat is as comfortable a boat as one could fish on. He also has a touch for these YPs! It was a great day, we had a great time and can't wait to do it again!!

Great report! looks like you had a blast. 13" perch is impresive.
I think I know the answer to this, but the siver buddies caught 39 perch; did you ever switch your lure of choice?

I did use a silver buddy for a few minutes and managed to catch one YP. I like to experiment....sometimes it pays off (big fish) and sometimes it doesn't (few fish).

It really was a fun day.
Love Carl's boat but his fishing manners are marginal. I'd catch a fish, take off my gloves, take it off the hook, drop it back into the water, put my gloves back on and turn around to find Carl fishing my spot with a big smile on his face. Is that any way to treat the rookie?
We also need to teach Ernie that the proper technique is to say "Hold on" before you gun the engine rather than the other way around.
Good fishing and good friends.
Thanks,
Doug (Aches n Pains)

Nice fish ernie, Carl doesn't seem to be enjoying himself with his big smile in every picture. Doug I hear you own a house at SOLOMONS Island. That is where Carl and I call heaven. I'm so jealous.
The white PERCH are coming!

We had a good time....it's always great to be out on the water.
I have been fishing with Carl since 1984...that is a loooooooong time!
Doug got a changce to see how we operate.....

Wrong Curly...
I will say that the silver buddy is not what it used to be. It used to be chromed over the lead. Also a trick I learned a few years ago was to bend the tail just a wee bit to get the extra wobble on the fall.
Also there one lure that will out fish the grub and silver buddy for YP.
It is that really cheap looking jig with the silver plastic minnow and a red head jig..
If I find a pic I will post it.
