John and I cancelled our morning UP expedition because of the weather....too much rain!
As I checked the forecasts and radar, it looked like we would get a short window of little to no rain between 3:30p and 5:30p which was the scheduled time for the outing.
The troop leaders checked with the girls and all but one said, "let's go fishing"!. Nine of them showed up! Heck, they are Girl Scouts after all!
About half of them had never caught a fish before. And the ones that caught BGs last time wanted to catch bass so they used a wacky rig. We got some on that.
Every girl caught a fish but one but she caught and landed a dinner plate snapping turtle. I had a crowd around me as I used my forceps to get the hook out. Cool stuff.
This next one was a huge red ear!
At one point, we had a half dozen parents looking from the other side of the fence cheering them on. It was cool!
Theses girls learned quickly and some where making power casts. They were also very patient.
And they didn't want to leave.
What a blast...for me. I trust they had a great time too!

Great job, Ernie! Starting the next generation off right. So cool!

Oh, we caught BGs, Red Ear, Green sunfish, LMB and a turtle or three.

Mmm. Girls in their cool rain boots were more adventurous than a couple old guys in a boat. Gotcha. LoL
Looks like you made the right choice
I'm sure the girls agreed

It was not either or. We would fish early, before the GS event. I knew Ernie was pushed for time and it was raining steady in the AM. Glad things worked out for the event.
