With the days getting warmer and longer, I'm outside a lot more. I was wondering what everyone uses for protection from the sun? I just have a hat and sun screen. I'd like to look into getting a buff. I'd also like to wear long sleeves and pants but that can get pretty warm in the summer time. I know I've seen people have long sleeves while fishing when it's hot. Are those just workout shirts that keep you cool or are they specific for fishing/outdoors with a UPF rating?

When on a boat in summer, I always wear quick dry fishing pants and long sleeve UPF shirts + buff + hat. I NEVER wear cotton when it is hot and sunny. Sunscreen is always close by as well.

As a kid in Cuba, we spent many hours out in the sun but we were not allowed out between noon and 4. Still, I get pre-cancerous stuff removed by my skin doc each year from the side of the face (between cheek and temple) and top of the head.

The buff is something that is hard to get used to at times. But if you stick it in the cooler water on the hottest of day it will cool your core down nicely.
Still need sunscreen on your nose and side temples. Big brim hat will keep your ears from being removed for cancer.

Wish I knew all this growing up and my little 5 foot SKIN DR would not be a yearly visit. But she is cute as a button.

I need to be more careful. I had a pre-cancerous spot burned off my shoulder a few years back. My uncle died from melanoma and my dad has spots cut out all the time (lives in FL). I always wear 50 spf sun block, but I wear shorts and short sleeves when it gets hot. I bought a buff last year and will try using that. I want to get the hand protectors as well. I will try to ear a wide brimmed hat more, but they are no good in wind. The lighter non-cotton type shirts are good. Soaking a shirt or buff in cold water is great when real hot.

Costco is selling a booney hat with UPF50 and a chin strap for $15. I'm thinking about adding that to my areanal. I remember I went fishing one time with long sleeves and the next day I realized my hands were darker. There was a clear tan line where my sleeve ended. Those hand protectors sound like a good idea.

I saw this posted on a kayaker forum. Looks like it might be easier to get used to than a regular buff.

Thanks. I saw that post as well. I will probably go that route for the buff.
