Rose River Farm

I received a rod fee certificate for Rose River Farm and booked March 1 with my brother-in-law. Anyone ever been?

Would welcome fly selections. Welcome any waders advice as I now need to get some.

Good waders require purchasing boots! Stay away from felt soles as they are unwelcomed in most places. Albright has a big sale going.....

Good luck!

Re: Rose River Farm

I have heard very good reports from people that have stayed there. You will catch fish! I ditto Ernie get stocking foot waders. March 1 I would go with neoprene. After April you want light weight.

Are you staying in their new yete's (cabins)or whatever they are? I have heard great things about them also.

Re: Rose River Farm

I would go to LL Bean and get fitted. They cost a bit more but last decades.

As a former LL Bean salesmen I can attest to the quality of the waders.

Re: Rose River Farm

I currently have boots that I got off of an Orvisnews.com sale. They are studded, not felt bottomed.

I am looking at neoprene, not rubber for waders and something lighter that I can layer up underneath so I can use them throughout the year.

I have looked at LLBean, but the closest store is Tysons and I am down in Richmond. I have an Orvis around me to get fitted, or I can take a stab a size based on the fact that I am a regularly sized guy (5'10", 160lbs - size 9.5 shoe), and order online.

LLBean is running a good sale. Orvis has a sale on their Silver Label. I have also looked at Cabela's, Simms, amongst others, but I am trying to keep it at a realistic price point.

To Jeff - we are thinking of staying in their cabins and they are running a promo that we can buy one night and get the second one free if they are consecutive nights.

Re: Rose River Farm

I have a set of cabelas neoprene and breathable waders. The neoprene ones were probably 10+ years old before I wore a small hole in right foot. That may have more to do with my wading boots coming apart on me while in goose creek and having to walk back to the route 7 bridge with the soles hanging on by a thread.  This time of the year you want neoprene. 3mm at a min. Even with that, a pair of neoprene socks, heavy socks etc I still get numb toes on occasion while out. I've tried layering up and wearing the breathable waders but he cold just wicks right through them.

I'm not sure of the quality of the basspro home brand, but they are probably hodgeman's. Have to figure cabelas are as well.
