Whites Ferry

Can you launch a kayak from the VA side of whites ferry? Or do you have to ferry to md then launch?  It looks like it would be a doable day float from there down to algonkian. Anyone ever try it?

Re: Whites Ferry

Use to, but not any more.

Well, legally.  Like Tickle says, it ain't illegal until you get caught.

$10 fee to lauch a yak now @ Whites plus the ferry.  Good float though.

I've done the float - it's a long day.  Bit long for this time of the year, but if you pick your holes & paddle inbetween them, its doable.

PM me if you're looking for a float partner.  I can shuttle 2 (or 3) yaks on my car.

Gees, so they 18$ but put a kayak in the river there? Little steep. Point of rocks would make a real long day...

Re: Whites Ferry

You need to get Penrod's book on the Upper Potomac.  There's a bunch of floats you can do in a day.

Re: Whites Ferry

Pay for a round trip crossing and launching is free. At least it was this past summer.

Re: Whites Ferry

I was thinking of launching from Whites Ferry the next time i am able to get out on the yaks... I have heard of a decent whole just above there that supposedly holds good winter smallmouth. Let me know if you decide to go.

I was out a month ago & got billed for the launch & ferry fee.

I don't know about a winter float trip, but if anyone is thinking about a trip to dickerson I am interested in going.

Re: Whites Ferry

I usually launch a jon boat @ Whites & motor up to Dickerson.

Make sure they are generating power first - otherwise it'll be slow.
