Rhode Island, 5-25-12

Took advantage of a business meeting in CT yesterday and came up to Steve Barnes' place in Charlestown RI.....

.....so we could try to get in a 1/2 day in today.

We were not concerned with tides or weather 'cause we were fishing no matter what. The plan was to head out to the rips around Block Island.

We splashed the boat in the "pond".....

....and out the breezeway we went where we encountered fog, east winds and 2-3' seas. Nothing that his 21' Trophy couldn't handle. We did take it easy going out there.....visibility was a bit low.

we got to the other side of the sound and it did not take long to get our 1st strike but I lost the fish after a few seconds of the fight.

Then, using a 4pc Med. Fast 7' rod, I got serious bendage....

And after an expert net job by Steve, I got to land this nice, fat almost 33 incher.

He was caught on a pink, 1oz jig with a 7" Case Salty Shad.

There were some birds around as well as a couple of boats but we would lose sight of them quickly as the fog was not about to let up.

A few minutes later, I got hit again and after a short battle this nice 33incher was netted.

Steve and I then caught some nice blues.....

.......but we never again found the fish.

The soup was getting thicker and it started to rain so we decided to come back in to the "pond" to see if we could pick.anything up there.

We did not.

Hmmmm....looks familiar!

We were lucky to get a half day in and very fortunate to have been able to jig up a couple of fatties.

This is a really nice area to chill and fish and I am grateful for Steve's hospitality. From his house , we trailered the boat and were on the water in 20 minutes!

Re: Rhode Island, 5-25-12

It is a great place to fish.

Stripers and blues in the spring.....albies and bonito move in during the fall. Blakfish as well. And who knows what else....

Steve's place is really close to the water.....I may move in for a few months.

Re: Rhode Island, 5-25-12

That 70 pounder was caught off the beach in CT I think......

I saw a 50+ pound beast brought in to the little tackle shop I frequent when up in RI.
