Hey- So I was able to take my jon boat out with a friend last night to Burke Lake for some cat fishing. After a quick stop at the local Safeway for some chicken livers, hot dogs, water, and snacks we made our way to the boat launch. After dropping in around 10:00-10:30 we started heading towards our normal shore fishing waters. As we approached we could see other fishermen in the surrounding area. So we decided to explore other spots on the lake & see what happens. We set anchor at our first location for about 1.5 hours. we where roughly in 14-16 feet of water. Our usual set-up consist of two poles each one in deeper water like 15-25 feet and the other two towards the shallower water. With-in 45 minutes my buddy lands the first fish of the night an nice 2lb channel cat from the shallower water off a hot dog. Roughly 30 minutes later my line towards the shallows starts to see some action and I landed an nice 4-5lb channel cat on some chicken livers (photo below). Despite the fact that we both have caught nice fish we decided to move into a cove we eyed up in the past. It defiantly paid off. Twenty minutes after setting anchor in about 10-14 feet of water my buddy and I both land a 1.5-2 lb cat fish one off hot dogs the other off chicken liver. He goes on to catch two cats 1-2lbs while I hook up with another nice 5-6lb catfish off a chicken liver towards the end of the night.
My fish large one
Lager Catfish of the night
All fish where returned to the water FYI!!!

@ Jumping Jasper- It was perfect after these past hot summer days.
@ Flippin4it- C-rig? do you mind going more in depth on this? I am unfamiliar with this terminology... Cat fishing out there has defiantly been more lucrative than the bass fishing at Burke for me... :-( i havent fished directly on top of the rez area yet, but ive been with in a two hundred yards or so... I would like to catch more bass, wallie and musky out of burke but I believe my numbers have been limited due to the amount of fishing that takes place.
@pacemaker- Thanks man glad to see you made it out a few days this weekend!

Steve, Rob is referring to a Carolina Rig. He's talking about bass fishing.
I also echo his comment about Occoquan Reservoir, there are some monster cats in there.

Where is there a launch for the occoquan reservoir? i know about the one off 123 right before you cross the bridge.. if thats it i usually dont fish there at night since they close the park at dark... if you know of another location feel free to pass on the information.
