I launched from Windmill Point on Friday to take another shot at cobia. Water was real choppy on the way out and never really laid down throughout the day. I started chumming and got my lines in around 8am.
It was a slow day. I had two long runs that never came tight, but that was the only pullage besides some grass shad on my bait rod. At one point a decent size cobia swam right up to the boat, and I was able to cast a bucktail at it but it wasn't interested. I got off the water around 4pm.
I slept in the back of the truck Friday night and was up early Saturday morning to launch from another ramp a bit further North. The water was flat calm and the ride out was great. I set up on the edge of a dropoff from 10-20 feet of water, started chumming, then dropped my eels down. I think about an hour had passed when the clicker went off on one of my rods, and I was finally hooked up to a cobia! It came up to the boat with almost no fight so I thought it was a baby, but when it got closer I saw it was a decent fish. A few runs later I got it in the boat, and it was (barely) a keeper at 40.5". Good enough for me!
A while later I hooked up again, this time to a smaller fish. I didn't care if I landed this one so I took my time and tried to get some action shots. I didn't measure it but I estimated 33" and gave it a quick release.
A couple more hours passed and just as the tide went dead slack I hooked up one more time.
This fish went 38" and had a tag in it's back. Swam away healthy. I already reported the tag numbers and I'm looking forward to hearing about that cobia's history.
That was it. I waited through the tide change and then decided to pack it in at noon so I could get home early.
Felt so good to finally get some slime in the boat! Hope to do it again this weekend. These fish were a ton of fun, but they get a lot bigger...

Really good eating fish! Nice work! A 90 pounder is out there somewhere with your name on it.......

Excellent! Nice when a plan comes together. Cobia are better fighters once inside the boat!

Congrats! I LOVE cobia fishing. Sight casting is my favorite. They are a very cool fish and can put a whoopin on you. They taste great too. I sure do miss the salt.
