Where to buy live bait

So, Capt Mike taught me a valuable lesson while fishing and that was....live bait works way better than anything I have in the bag.  I promised myself that I would do more fishing this year and decided I would try out the local waters at Occoquan.  After some searching it seems that Dawsons in woodbridge is the only place to get bait....does anyone know where else I can buy bait?  Bait bucket won't work due to limited access to waters and worms....are worms....ewwww! lol

really curly?  I guess I could...and not say why I need them!  But I bet they have feeder fish.  Are there any specific types I should be getting?

The store at the corner of gum springs and evergreen mills used to sell live bait and still has a sign in the window for it.

Re: Where to buy live bait

Finding live bait and especially shiners is very hard. That is why I keep my own bait and have two very large tanks for them. It is a real struggle to keep them healthy too. Next year a chiller will get installed to prolong them in the spring heat.

This year I lucked out and the heat was not bad. I also added an AC unit and set it too 60 degrees and ran it over top of tanks. Four days of 80 degree weather and I lose half my bait.. 100.00 bucks right out the window.

They sell minnows at Fountain Head Regional Park.

They also sell dead minnows, which make for decent catfish bait smile

Re: Where to buy live bait

ok, so I went to a local aquarium shop in centreville who sold them 12 for $1.00 (medium).  I picked up 2 dozen from the aquarium and headed off to Occoquan.
Immediately I caught a really nice crappie, then it started to rain and I had to seek shelter under the bridge!  The bridge is really tall, so it didn't help that much.  Only other bites I had were from catfish.
So, I left one rod in with the bobber and the other I put a tube on.  Surprisingly, the tube caught my limit of 9 more crappie.  I released the rest of my baitfish as a gesture of kindness. hahaha.
