Lake Anna survey this week by DG&IF
Just got back from 4 days of surveying the lake with the fisheries biologists.
The saugeyes are now beasts.....running 3-4 lbs now on average and all keepers.....90,000 were stocked in the lake 3 years ago.
Tons of stripers in the keeper range.
Hybrids are nearing keeper size......should be some keepers next year.
More crappie than you can shake a stick at.......from 3" to almost 15".
Tons of forage fish.
Netted a 50+ lb grass carp too.
Don't ask me about the bass.........that survey is in the spring.

Here is the 23 year old grass carp. Pic does not do it justice. Swam away just fine.

I am really excited about the F-1 breed of LGMouth. Did they stock those in the lake.?
I think many creeks on the mighty Potomac would benefit from this type of fish.

The saugeye stocking really interests me. I hope they start putting them in more lakes.

Bringing this one back up from the depth of time......
I read an article by Bob O on the "Wipers" at Lake Anna. Are these the hybrids listed in the post here? Wipers are the hybrid of White Bass and Stripers capable of surviving these lower oxygen level waters and growing up to 20lbs (according to the article). Supposedly have the tell tale hump of the white bass. One thing is for certain....every summer....there is nothing but bait fish (huge schools) around my boat at the lake. I think these types of fish can grow pretty darn big (or at least fat) with threadfin populations like the way they are!

Wiper is a common name given to the hybrids
