Good day Gents,

Unable to withstand this winter, I booked a trip with my bro-in-law to fish the Keys at the end of February into March. I know many of you frequently travel and was wondering if anyone had good charter captain suggestions for Islamorada.

We'd also like to do some Kayaking as well, so if anyone has a suggestion on a kayak guide as well.

We figured if we couldn't find a kayak guide, we would go on the charter the first day ask for some tips and rent our own kayaks and explore the area ourselves....

I hope you can find some info.....we will be in Key Largo for 2 days but no fishing excursions are planned. Well.....I am sure I will throw a fly or two early in the morning before the day starts.

I don't have specifics on Charter Capts, but if you go to Bud n Mary's Marina (south end of Islamorada) (www.budnmarys.com)‎ you will find plenty to choose from. Are you looking for inshore or offshore? Inshore is a whole lot less expensive and offers a lot of options. Not as much trolling and more actual fishing (hunting and casting). There is so much to see inshore, I would suggest a boat instead of a kayak.

Also, another suggestion (not about a fishing charter). Stop at Robbie's Marina (the other end of the bridge span after Bud and Mary's). Buy some bait fish and feed the HUGE tarpon by hand. They will jump out of the water to eat the fish (and your hand if you don't let go - I know this because I forgot to let go). Really fun.

Thanks Greg. Bud n Mary's was the first place we looked and they have so many listings. I wanted to get a recommendation from someone who's tried a charter captain from there. We were looking for inshore mostly but are open for offshore.

I totally forgot about the Tarpon feeding! I remember seeing a couple of videos on youtube but forgot that they have that there. We will definitely check that out!
