6-16-12, Deale w/ lots of pictures

Mo and I were going to give Deale a shot today to see if the summertime big perch pattern was in yet.

We were on the water by 7 so we decided to hit the outflow 1st.

Only trouble was that the tide seemed high. But it really was about the pesky NE wind we have had....and continue to have.

Finding no love there, we came back to the wall to start catching some meat.

Miss Gracie was going bottom fishing....

Finally, I connected with this 11 incher....

...our hopes were high!

And then they dried up as the bite (whatever it was) died down. So....we decided to brave the 1-1.5' chop and head out to Holland Pt. to see if we could mark some bait or stripers. The ride out was bangy (remember, we are in Carl's old boat which is basically a flat bottom boat). Mo is now the proud owner of the boat but I was at the helm trying to keep him dry. We looked for a bit but there was nothing going on so we did some exploring.

We did fish the docks just south of Herring Bay and I was able to score 3 nice 10-11 inchers. No pics because it was rough as all get out as that shoreline was getting pounded, as were we.

Mo finally said, "no mas" since he was running the trolling motor, and we tried a few other spots with nary a bite.

Although Mo had a skunk going, he never let go of his enthusiasm!

We decided to go to our honey hole....

....but I only caught a few more little ones.

This ship was anchored across the bay near Poplar Island.

Oh, back comes Miss Gracie around 11:15.....must have caught a limit!

At 11:30, dejected and frustrated, we called it a day. In total, I caught 9 WP of which 4 were keepers. That is a GREAT ratio!

As we were leaving, we saw our welcome sign....

....wonder if they realize that Mo and I just might stay and never leave.

Other than the wind and lack of perchies, it was a great day on the water with a great ending at Ledo's where we tried a new pizza (The Veg Out) that was outstanding.

Transient is a naval term.....for marinas that offer dockage, it means big $$!

I wonder what the constant NE blow has done.

I do know a friend that scored big in the lower Potomac but he was in deeper water using bait.

The perch are there, just not in numbers. Had we been able to hold the boat in the shallows of Holland Pt. we may have done OK.

We could have canceled the trip but I would rather go and not score than not go....
