Speckled Sea Trout closures in VA and NC

I hope Bryan will weigh in on this.

Our very cold February took its too with this popular fish.

Personally, I'm not a fan of eating it. You have to keep it cold and get it on the grease ASAP.

But, I did  not realize that thrower was a commercial fishery for this.

Time to go fishin' again!

Re: Speckled Sea Trout closures in VA and NC

I'm all for the closure. Like you, I don't eat them either. I keep a handful for family and friends every year but other than that I tag and release them all. I tagged 350 last year, this year I doubt I'll hit 100.

I haven't been out for specks since early January before the big freeze. I've heard there were some survivors but no doubt we lost a very large percentage of the population. Hoping there will be a few around the Northern neck to fish for this Summer.

Sad to hear after Bryan's catches.  Hopefully, they will get a chance to recover.
