On Monday, Travis Edens ( King Fisher Guide Services) and Scott had this happen.
That's a 6lb fish!!
And then this!
That's not good when you have trips all week including ours today.
But, like all good guides, Travis has a back up.
And the boat even allows for cigar puffin'!
Here's our quiver.
So around 9a, off we went!
I was in the low 60's when we started. Kept the jacket on for a while. The forecasters called for a cloudy day but the sun popped out and warmed up things nicely.
Fishing was slow in the morning, John and I each got a couple of dinks. But, the scenery was relaxing!
We had lunch on the water...fried chicken and Italian Deli subs. Now it was time to get serious.
I like trains...
Then, I get hooked up. Nice fish on. He takes me into fast current. I declare that I am now hooked up to the bottom. Travis maneuvers the raft and the rock that I was on moves! Yikes! Monster time. Landing this fish required a total team effort. Travis was on the oars. John had a fly rod in one hand and the net in the other. I am trying to get the fish to the surface but it was a battle.
Finally!
This one was 20" on the nose and 4.25 lbs! What a rush!
We catch some more and then move on.
As we are going down a fairly steep chute, all was going well until this rock appeared from nowhere and jolted the boat. I went flying but caught myself with my knee and had. The had grabbed the leaning bar, the knee hit the steel floor. Ouch!
The pain was intense but it subsided (usually means not too much damage) soon enough. The boys convinced me to ice it!
This helped quiet it down and we continued to fish...and catch!
I did say that the scenery was nice...
Travis' oar skills are impressive.

When fishing in my boat, I am good for 4-6 hours. But fishing with Travis is always a long day. He just loves staying out on the water. So, I've learned to pace myself and enjoy the 8-10 hours on the raft. It's a whole new game when someone else is in control of the helm.
Already looking forward to the next one!

Now that was an epic ride. Those were some huge fish and congrats on your 4 plus lbs'r!. You're a real trooper to hang in there with that swollen knee. It looked bad at that point, so I can only guess it got worse later? Is that also a walleye in the pic? Thanks for the great report ernie!

What a day to be on the river
Sorry to hear about the knee - what's the saying? No Pain no pain?
Nice job on the fish!

Yes, that was a walleye.
The knee is surprisingly good this morning. Very little swelling and most of the redness gone. But there is a dent! My fear was cracking the cap since 1/2 of it is real bone and the other half ceramic. I got a pass on this one!

Tube...behind some rocks with really fast water washing down the sides. Threw to the calm area and it went ballistic from there.

Fantastic fishing and TOAD! Bummer about the knee, but glad it does not seem too serious. Great pics.

What happened to the raft?

When they were retrieving it at the ramp on Monday and were getting it up on the platform, the current pulled it tight against a corner and gashed it. The force of them pulling it and the river current did the dirty. It’s fixable but it gave them some few anxious moments as it was deflating in the water. And getting heavier.
