8-14-09, Wicomico River report

This morning, Jimmy  Rekas and I met Carl at his house at 4:15 and the target water was the Wicomico River. Target fish: white perch and stripers.

We put in before sunrise and we were fishing within 500 yards of the ramp. Jimmy was using a beetle spin, although he somehow managed to forget to put on a jig!

I was throwing top water (Storm Chug Bug) and I got several hits and takes including the fat 19+ incher!

As well, I caught 3 others on top water....what a great time!

Carl was throwing a 3" grub and he caught two keepers, this one was the nicest one!

Some nice perch were caught, as well.......

In all, we caught 110 white perch, a couple of small blues, 6 stripers and a cow nose ray that Carl hooked. He then gave the rod to Jimmy to fight.....

....and then to me

We had the ray right up to the boat and then.....SNAP goes the rod!

Oh....we also got a call from Mo who was with his family but was stranded (no electrical) in the middle of the river. Rather than towing him in, we towed him to the fishing grounds where he and Amy proceeded to catch about 25 perch!

He has a nice family.....

Another great day on the river that just keeps giving!

When they hit on top, it's a sight to see and a fight to be had!
