Today I took an old buddy to Solomons Island to chase white perch. We launched at 5:00 am and while I parked the truck Earl tried to get a jump on me by casting topwater in hopes of getting an early morning striper. As I walked down to the pier, I could see Earl with his back to me. He was busy on his knees leaning over the port side trying to release a seagull that had grabbed his surface plug! This was the beginning of a very different day of perching. I took Earl to the usual places that have produced for me, but today it was not to be. I caught a needlefish and Earl caught a toadfish. We caught an occasional perch but we were cursed with juvenile bluefish. Every time a bluefish hit the grub, it had to be replaced. Earl spent most of his time casting small bucktails. We both caught a couple of nice size perch but they were few and far between. When I did a final count it was thirteen perch and one croaker in the cooler. This is not what we expected at this time of year. In years past, perch could be caught on almost every cast! I spoke to Ernie today and he said he is going perching tomorrow. I'm anxious to get his report. Hopefully he will have more success than Earl and I did today!

Just about getting ready to hit the rack in anticipation of a great day tomorrow on the Wicomico and Potomac Rivers. I have a crew of 1 dad and his 3 daughters....ages 9, 7 and 5! It should be interesting.
I will post your pictures later this weekend.
I would have loved to have seen Earl's face as he was unsnagging that seagull.
Sounds like a tough day but it really is a good day 'cause you were out on the water. I was on conference calls all day!

Could be....I didn't notice when I got the pictures....redfish and croakers are cousins.
What do you say Carl?

Hey guys, I did not see the spot until now. Thanks for noticing. After doing this for fifty plus years, I'm not sure it would be easy to explain to the game warden!
