In my second trip of the year - (yes - unbelivable!) George Lenard joined me to fishing on the Pax River and Chesapeake Bay -We were very fortunate to have a moving tide the whole day as George plotted out the trip to have us on moving water the whole day - nicely done.
We were also very fortunate to have great cloud cover the whole day which is a good thing for fishing and sunburn!
We started in the Patuxent River fishing different areas that have traditionally held fish - we were picking up occasional stripers on both 3/8 & 1/2oz Lil Jimmy Bucktails which George makes and sells through Specialized Baits - there is no finer bucktail out there!!
I took the boat over to a very well known shoal just south of the bridge and George hooks up - and low and behold it is a nice 19 inch Flounder - and luckily i had brought the net as lipping those buggers is never a good idea - The trip was a CNR trip - with one exception - Flounder - so this guy was put on ice -
After a few hours in the river we headed out to hit the spots in the bay and found fish up near the power plant -
The little Jimmy Bucktail in 1/2 oz weight was hot for me - and we were catching Stripers on those lures - but not on topwater plugs - but hey - 'take what you can get -
We found feisty, quality fish averaging 20-24 inches - and we each caught a larger fish - 31" & 33" to be specific - and all stripers were released to grow bigger!
All in all - a great day - we also were treated to seeing a beautiful Mature Bald Eagle who was fooling around on the shoreline - and finally took flight.
Hope to get some more fishing in soon and post more reports .
