I went to Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks with my family and my cousins family. Cape Hatteras is the farthest down Highway 12 you can go. We fished from the surf with double rigs. They had 1/0 hooks on them and the bottom had a 3oz weight to hold it in place. We used squid, shrimp, bloodworms, and the spot we caught. Seven of us surf fished Saturday night from 6-10, which was our first night. My cousin, who now loves fishing, caught the first fish, a 20"+ Flounder. I then caught a flounder that was around 16" if not bigger.I then caught a blue around the same size. Then my cousin caught a spot that we used as bait. Sunday morning I fished from 5-9 30 without anything, but a crab. Sunday night we all fished from 6-9 and my dad caught to really good size Mullet at the same time and my cousin a small flounder that we released. Their was one on each rig. Monday it rained. Tuesday we all fished again at 6, but everyone went in at 8 but me and my brother, Connor. Before my other brother, John(fishin4food) caught a spot that we released. Connor caught a spot when we were out that we released. Wednesday we all fished from 6-8ish. My cousin and I walked out into the ocean to fish. Their was a sandbar that went all the way out to the farthest breakers and we went all the way out their. It was xtreme fishing, being clobbered by breaker waves while fishing. We did not catch anything though. We ate the two big flounder, they blue, and the two mullet. The were all delicious.
These are the blue and the flounder I caught. My cousin and my dad are going to send me more pics.

NICE! One of my fishing buddies said he has caught a bunch of bull redfish while shorefishing at the OBX. All I ever catch are blues and the occasional skate or flounder.
There are also some bass fishing spots down there. If you stayed in Hatteras then you passed right by them on your way down. When you drive through Avon there is a Food Lion on the west side of Rt. 12. The ponds just south of that Food Lion have some largemouth in them.
