Solomons, 7-3-09

Normally it takes Carl 9-10 days to recover from his chemo treatments. He had one last Friday, we fished today.

I met up with him around 5 AM and on down the road we went. The weather man was a bit off on his wind prediction but we didn't care. No need to, we were fishing. As well, everyone and their brother was on the water.

The 1st spot we hit gave up a 21" striper on topwater (Stillwater Smack It). Nice way to start!

We then went to all of Carl's haunts but it was slim pickins. Still, Carl was kicking my behind, 16-10. We caught 5 species: white perch, striper, blue fish, croaker and an ugly ole Oyster Toad (1st one Carl has ever caught a grub).

We did get to see Chris Moe and his son Jeffrey on St.Helen Creek (where he lives). They had gone out to the bay at 5 AM. Must be nice to live right on the water.

Hey....there is a nice older house on a point on 7 acres that is for sale $880,000!

It was getting late as we were worried about the holiday traffic so we started our way back but not before we stopped at a very fishy looking point that Month had pointed out to us.This is where we did best all day; we caught 8 fish here in about an hour.

All in all I would call today a bit slow with a lot of work (I managed the trolling motor) because of the wind and wave action. But, we were fishing and we pulled out a decent day!

So far, we have not run in to much traffic but we are starting to get closer to the beltway.

Pictures at 11!

Next up is Carl's 1st striper....just a wee but small.

But then he hooked into a nice white perch.....almost 11"!

I could have sworn these were real....

This is one of the many VERY nice places down that way.....

Finally, towards the end, Carl hooked into something that was pulling drag and the boat. Whatever it was, it was big! I looked back and this is what I saw....

He was speechless for a few minutes.....we did have some fun though!!

Looks like another nice day.

We fished up the bay and found them on top again.  More dispersed because of all the boats but we still had a load of fun.

Will post a picture tomorrow.

Maybe you and I can drag him along for the big strippers.  Nice pictures, Carl looked cool with his glasses and hat backward.  Nice stripper, it sure tasted good.  My chef Carl fillet it for me.  I will be in heaven(solomons) tommorrow.

love fishing

Now, if only I could get Ernie and Mo to proof read their Pacemaker entries! Mo, I can't go looking for big strippers. I'm a married man! Ernie, as far as I know, Mo has not changed his name to month.

Now, for my reply entry. It was a real great day of fishing. As Ernie said, I have some physical limitations. When I get a chance to have someone like Ernie or Mo take over the helm, I'm confident in their seamanship. On this subject, Ernie pulled off a maneuver today, that was really difficult. When we returned to the ramp, five guys had their 20+ foot boat blocking the entry at the end of the peer. Ernie was able to go around their boat, in a very narrow space, and onto to the trailer perfectly! It is always a pleasure to see a former student do well!
